Anybody can unintentionally trip their alarm. In fact, 98% of all alarms are false. You can help reduce this staggering statistic by taking a few simple precautions:

  • Install a Titan Security System with ADT monitoring. Ease of use is one of the major benefits of the system. Built in alarms let you know if your system was not set correctly or has been activated allowing you an opportunity to correct the situation and avoid a false alarm call.
  • Regularly test your system to make sure that it’s functioning properly and you are arming it correctly. To test your alarm, contact the ADT call center at 1-800-369-0996, tell them you want to test your system, and a representative will guide you from there.
  • Be wary of things that can trigger motion sensors, such as helium-filled balloons or automatic space heaters (if they come on, the heat can set off the alarm). If you have pets, ask about our line of pet shielded motion sensors.
  • Ensure that everyone who uses the system knows the access code and password. This includes children, hired help, guests, as well as office staff and cleaners. The sooner an accidental alarm is disarmed, the quicker ADT will know it was false.
  • If a false alarm happens, stay off the phone and wait for an ADT representative to call you. If you’re on the other line or we cannot reach you and will therefore automatically dispatch the authorities.

Please note: Most local authorities require alarm users to have a permit. This helps them verify that a licensed company has installed and is monitoring your alarm system. Call your local authorities to determine if you need a permit, or to renew it if yours has expired.

Beware: Because of the high incidence of false alarms, some municipalities have introduced fines for false alarms. Some municipalities allow a given number of false alarms per year and then begin to fine per alarm after that number has been reached. Reduce the possibility of accidentally setting off your alarm and avoid a fine. Call your local police department to verify if your community has fines.
